Ghana has officially departed for Algeria to participate in the maiden edition of the African School Games, scheduled to run from July 26 to August 5, 2025.

The national contingent will compete in 11 sporting disciplines, marking Ghana’s commitment to youth sports development and continental engagement through school sports.

The disciplines are Boxing, Basketball, Cycling, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Beach Canoe, Taekwondo, Judo, Beach Volleyball and Tennis.

The Games will be hosted across four Algerian cities — Annaba, Skikda, Constantine, and Setif — with thousands of young athletes from across the continent expected to compete in what is set to become a flagship youth sporting event in Africa.

The African School Games aim to foster talent discovery, promote cultural exchange among African nations, and enhance physical education at the school level.

Ghana’s participation is seen as a significant step toward strengthening its grassroots sports framework and offering young athletes international exposure.

As the competition unfolds, attention will turn to how Ghana’s youthful representatives perform on the continental stage and contribute to the success of the debut African School Games.
